Refugees in America Assistance Program (RAAP)

Refugees in America Assistance Program (RAAP) – Chapters will focus on refugees of color in the United States by partnering with organizations engaged in support activities that assist refugees and their families to integrate into American life. This includes literacy classes, educational training, and other necessary transitional support.

On World Refugee Day, join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Chi Omega Omega and Tau Mu Chapters, as we observe World Refugee Day 2021 occurring on June 20, 2021 at 6:30pm CDT, which is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe.  This day also offers a chance to raise awareness of the plight of refugees and the efforts to protect their human rights.

We will feature a heartwarming documentary from Bullfrog Films called “A Home Called Nebraska” which spotlights people who escaped war, torture and persecution on their refugee resettlement journeys. It also introduces the generous Nebraskans who welcomed them, taught them, celebrated with them, and helped them find jobs and homes.  This film is a compelling portrait of ordinary people standing up for what is right….inspiring us to do the same.

After the screening, we will have a discussion and hear from members of the Hyde Park Refugee Project and Bethany House as they share their experiences and learn how you can serve to support and enrich the lives of people around the world.

This is a free event, but registration is required. –
